First off, let me just say, the crowd was amazing, they were into everything.
We started with the national anthem, which was interrupted by Renee
Dupree. He got on the mic and started the whole "Don't chant USA,
French is the best country on the planet" thing. This went on
entirely too long before Vis finally came out. After some random
posing, we finally got some action. Dupree keeps leaving the ring,
and the USA chant is used entirely too much. Vis pulls Duprees tights
into some kind of atomic wedgie, and then does the Visagra (or
whatever that man humping thing he does is called). Vis wins with the
double sit down chokeslam.
Next is a Three Way Elimination for the IC title. Rob Conway enters
the ring and hands the ring announcer his new introduction.
Apparently, Conway is "our new role model". Hmmm, that sounds
familiar. Shelton comes out to a good pop from the crowd and some guy
near ringside is dressed like Carlito. Not a bad match, by any
standards. Conway is out first after a pin by Shelton. Carlito and
Shelton go back and forth for a while, before Carlito gets the low
blow while the ref is distracted and gets the pin.
Now its time for Christy and Victoria. Big pop for Christy, but there
were some chants for Vicky. Nothing special here. Christy gets the
pin with a split into a leg drop. After the match, Victoria gets back
into the ring and gives Christy the Widows Peak.
Angle and Eugene is next. A pretty good and surprisingly long match
for the two of them. The crowd was hot for Eugene, as he acted like
JYD and Hogan, and did the Rock Bottom and started the Peoples Elbow.
He also "treats" us to Kurts ass when he pulls down the tights.
Thanks a lot, buddy (sarcasm on). Kurt wins with the Ankle Lock.
Edge and Lita come out to a good pop, actually, along with some "I
love you, Lita" yells. Kane gets a bigger pop than I expected.
Typical stuff with the two of them. Lita tries to interfere with a
chair, Kane catches her. As she runs to leave, Kane grabs her hair
and slams her to the mat. Edge goes for the briefcase, Kane catches
him with a boot to the face. Kane wins with the chokeslam. After the
match, he really plays to the crowd, pulling a "Kane Rules" sign from
the crowd and doing some posing.
Next is a Tag Title match between champs Hurricane and Rosey and the
Heart Throbs. Decent match with a lot of humorous spots, and dancing
from the Heart Throbs. Hurricane and Rosey win with their finisher.
Masters comes out for the Masterlock challenge to a chorus of boos. I
think maybe 2 people like him...that's 2 people too many. Show comes
out and we wind up with a match. Masters actually didn't do entirely
horrible or anything. He's better off with matches than the freakin'
Masterlock challenge, but I guess the WWE would hate to do anything
like that. Show wins with the chokeslam.
Time for the Main Event, Chris Jericho vs. Cena for the WWE Title.
Jericho gets a huge pop for his enterance, but Cenas is bigger. The
best match of the night. Jericho tries for the Walls of Jericho, but
Cena gets the ropes. Snitsky interfers for some reason. Jericho goes
to attack Cena with the belt, but Cena slingshots him into Snitsky.
Cena gets gets the pin with the FU.
Notes:
There were 3 fans dressed as the BWO there. They got a good pop
outside as people waited to be let in. I believe a WWE photog talked
to them.
Show was outside in the pool before the show, and people didn't really
leave him alone. Poor guy.
They talked to Cena and Christy on the local news. Christy mentions
she likes performing in the smaller arenas.
And, I was the obnoxious chick yelling how much Cena sucks. It's kind
of fun getting dirty looks. I'm a huge Jericho mark. I even tried to
get a Y2J chant going. Thanks for all the help with that, guys. Haha.
Also, I've been to A LOT of shows I haven't bothered to review. This
was my first one that was actually in my home town, so it was fun to
see the crowd react and all that.
Watertown Fairgrounds Arena, Sunday July 24, 1:30-4 PM
*Normally, WWE wouldn't play to such a small venue (seating only about
3,500), but this was done as a benefit for the DPAO, the Disabled
Person's Action Organization, with whom WWE has done shows for in the
past. The event has been sold out for weeks.
Viscera defeats Rene Dupree
Carlito retains in 3-Way Elimination Match for the Intercontinental
title against 'the Con-Man' Robert Conway (eliminated first) and Shelton
Benjamin
Christie Hemme defeats Victoria
Kurt Angle defeats Eugene
Kane defeats Edge (accompanied by Lita)
*15 minute intermission
Hurricane and Rosie defeat the Heart Throbs to retain the Tag-Team
Championship titles
Big Show defeats Chris Masters (after a blatant reuse of the "squirrel
nuts" gag fro last Monday's RAW!!)
John Cena defeats Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship.
