NXT TakeOver 36 Quick Recap for August 22, 2021

Matches Tonight:
  • Kickoff Show Singles Match: Trey Baxter vs Ridge Holland. Baxter got about half a minute of high-flying in before Holland destroyed him and picked up an easy victory in a short match.. 7:50-7:54pm EST.
  • Million Dollar Championship: LA Knight(c) vs Cameron Grimes. With a little help from Ted DiBiase--who locked in the Million Dollar Dream on Knight!--Grimes was able to win and become the new Million Dollar Champion. Very good, solid match and worth watching. 8:09-8:25pm EST.
  • NXT Women's Championship Match: Raquel Gonzalez(c) vs Dakota Kai. Very good match, despite some sloppy/scary spots. Raquel Gonzalez retained. Post match, former longest-reinging NXT UK Women's Champion Kaylee Ray arrived to confront Gonzalez with poses at the top of the ramp. 8:35-8:48pm EST.
  • WALTER/Dragunov II: This is the first time the NXT UK championship--as that brand's top title--has been defended on American soil. Excellent, brutal match that saw Ilja Dragunov end WALTER's historic 880-day reign, winning by sleeper submission. 8:58-9:20.
  • 2-Out-of-3 Falls Special Stipulations Match: Cole/O'Reilly III will see these two finally end their feud in this rubber match. The first match, traditional match was won by Kyle O'Reilly. The second match, a Street Fight, was won by Adam Cole. And the final match, a Steel Cage match as selected by GM William Regal, saw Kyle O'Reilly pick up the win and end both the rivalry and the Undisputed Era once and for all. The crowd was very, very strongly Pro-Cole and chanted "bullshit" after O'Reilly won. They proceeded to boo him so loudly when his hand was raised by the ref, we cut to a generic WWE promo commercial. Times for the matches: first match 9:35-9:38pm, second match 9:38-9:50pm, third steel cage match 9:52-10:00pm EST.
  • NXT Championship Match: Karrion Kross(c) vs Samoa Joe. Scarlett did not escort Kross out and was not seen tonight. Samoa Joe won after a somewhat-sloppy match, becoming the first-ever three-time NXT Champion. 10:12-10:30pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • Debut: Former NXT UK Women's Champion Kay Lee Ray made her NXT debut, simply smiling and posing at NXT Champion Raquel Gonzalez. The crowd ate it up and gave her a huge cheer.
  • The Crowd: As usual, the NXT Universe delivers. The crowd was strongly behind Cole.
  • This Tuesday on NXT: NXT Breakout Finals (Odyssey Jones vs Carmelo Hayes), Six-Man Tag Match (Legado Del Fantasma vs Hit Row).
