By Steve Knight
Hello everybody, welcome back to the UK Classics report. Just one quick note
in case you didn’t already know, the Royal Rumble will be shown live on
pay-per-view over here in the UK on Setanta Sports Channel 435/436. So now
you know!
NWA World Wide Wrestling
We open to see Ron Simmons working out in the gym in preparation for his
forthcoming World Heavyweight Championship Match with Lex Luger. Simmons
himself does the voice-over and asks where better to train than at his old
stomping ground, Florida State University.
Tony Schiavone and Magnum TA welcome us aboard and announce that tonight,
they will talk some more about the Simmons/Luger feud, with Gordon Solie
revealing another dastardly deed by Luger on WNN. Also, they will look at
the situation involving Sting, the mysterious box and Cactus Jack. The two
then congratulate The Enforcers, who won a tournament to crown new World Tag
Team Champions.
The York Foundation (w/Ms. Alexandra York) vs. Dustin Rhodes, The Z-Man and
Big Josh (6-Man Tag Team Champions)
Dustin and Richard Morton of The York Foundation start this one off with a
lock-up, with Morton raking the eyes. Dustin reverses a whip attempt but
Morton rebounds with a baseball slide through the legs, only to find himself
on the receiving end of a series of quick right hands, followed by the Flip,
Flop ‘n’ Fly Bionic Elbow. Thomas Rich and Terrence Taylor both get a Bionic
Elbow each when they hit the ring as well, causing the heels to flee to
ringside.
Back inside, Morton tags out to Taylor, who then locks up with Dustin. The
camera then pans out to Alexandra at ringside and when it returns to the
ring, Dustin has Taylor in a hammerlock and then tags out to The Z-Man, who
delivers a right hand to Taylor’s exposed shoulder and then twists the arm
around. Taylor forces Z-Man into the corner though and then breaks the hold
with a series of shoulder thrusts before scoring with an Irish Whip, only
for Z-Man to rebound with a reverse flying bodypress off the second rope for
2, followed by a couple of dropkicks that send him back out to ringside.
After consulting with his partners in the corner, Taylor locks up with Z-Man
and quickly works an arm wrench before twisting the limb around and tagging
out to Rich, who comes in with an elbow to Z-Man’s outstretched arm and then
twists it round himself. Z-Man quickly reverses the hold though and then
tags out to Josh.
On arrival, Josh’s former tag team partner offers his hand, which Josh
accepts, only to squeeze it before whipping him off the ropes and dropping
Rich with a clothesline, causing him to tag back out to Taylor.
Taylor comes in and locks up with Josh, landing a couple of knees to the
gut. He then goes for a bodyslam but Josh is too heavy, so he delivers a
bodyslam of his own instead before performing the log roll on Taylor’s
chest. Morton then hits the ring but gets caught with a couple of left hands
from Josh, who then decks Taylor with a hard right before delivering a
double noggin knocker to the both of them. An atomic drop then sends Taylor
into the face corner, where he receives right hands from both Z-Man and
Dustin and is then floored by a hard left from Josh, who then tags out to
Dustin. After staggering around for a bit, Taylor locks up with Dustin, who
cinches in a headlock. Taylor breaks the hold by bouncing him off the ropes
and then drops down to the mat on the rebound. Dustin hops over him but then
gets a knee in the back from Rich on apron, allowing Taylor to hit a
jawbreaker before tagging out to Morton. As he gets in, Rich drops down to
ringside and chokes Dustin over the middle rope, as the two heels stomp away
at him in the ring. Morton then delivers an Irish Whip to Dustin and follows
up with a back suplex before tagging back out to Rich, who comes in with a
right hand before whipping Dustin off the ropes and flooring him with a
clothesline.
Taylor then tags back in and hits a right hand of his own before using his
leg to choke Dustin over the middle rope. As Taylor takes Dustin over to the
corner, the camera pans to a shot of the crowd. When it returns to the ring,
Taylor bounces Dustin off the ropes and goes for a hiptoss, only for Dustin
to turn it into the bulldog and then make the hot tag to Josh, who delivers
a couple of hard left hands to Taylor before knocking both Rich and Morton
off the apron with some as well. After another left hand to Taylor, Josh
whips him off the ropes and takes him over with a high back-bodydrop. He
then delivers another left hand in the corner and a chop before hitting an
Irish Whip and then following up with his running double axhandle blow. Josh
then hits his patented Earthquake Splash, but before the ref can count the
pin, Morton runs in and cracks Josh over the back of the head with Ms.
York’s computer, disqualifying The York Foundation.
Winners via DQ: Dustin Rhodes, The Z-Man and Big Josh
After the bell sounds, Morton hits Dustin and Z-Man with the computer as
well before ejecting them from the ring. Rich and Taylor then hold back Josh
for another computer shot from Morton, but the faces recover and make the
save before clearing the ring.
Commercial
We return with Gordon Solie in the WNN studio, where he speaks about knowing
the Windham family and says they would have been shocked by what happened to
Barry Windham at the hands of Lex Luger, Harley Race and Mr Hughes in the
following match –
Barry Windham vs. Snake Watson
The two lock up to start, with Windham delivering a quick armdrag. They lock
up a second time, with Windham cinching in a headlock. Watson bounces him
off the ropes to break the hold but then gets floored by a shoulderblock on
the rebound. Windham then hits a bodyslam before coming off the ropes with
an elbow drop for 2. He then delivers a vertical suplex, followed by a right
hand shot. Watson fights back with a right hand of his own though, followed
by an eye rake and a knee to the gut. The two then trade right hand shots
until Windham gets the better of the situation and whips Watson off the
ropes, flooring him with a running forearm to the head, followed by a
gutwrench suplex. He then whips Watson off the ropes again and sends him to
the outside with a reverse elbow.
Suddenly, Luger, Race and Hughes make their way down to ringside. As Race
floors Watson at ringside with a hard right hand, Luger blindsides Windham
with a double axhandle shot to the back, causing the referee to call for the
bell.
Winner via DQ: Barry Windham
After the bell, the three heels continue the attack on Windham at ringside,
with Luger pulling back the mats and slamming Windham’s head into the
concrete. Eventually Ron Simmons and a bunch of squash boys run down to
help, but the heels stay on top until deciding to make their way to the
back.
We then return to Solie, who speaks about what we have just seen before
announcing that we will hear from Luger, Race and Hughes later on in the
show.
The Patriots vs. Sam Cody and Snake Watson
Chip the Firebreaker and Watson kick this one off with a lock-up, with Chip
wrenching the arm before twisting it around twice. Watson tries to break the
hold with a right hand, but Chip gives him one back and then twists the arm
round again before taking him over with a fireman’s carry slam. He then tags
out to Todd Champion before whipping Watson off the ropes and taking him
down with a drop-toehold. Champion then delivers a jumping legdrop to the
back of Watson’s head before whipping him off the ropes and taking him over
with a very dodgy back-bodydrop. Chip tags back in and hits an elbow drop,
but Watson turns the tide with a rake to the eyes and tags out to Cody, who
walks straight into an armdrag from Chip. Chip then slaps on an armbar, but
Cody breaks the hold by forcing Chip into a corner, where he delivers a
chop. Chip quickly swaps things around though and hits a couple of slaps to
the chest before delivering an Irish Whip and then following up with a
diving clothesline in the corner, which takes him out to the apron. Chip
then shoves Cody down into the middle of the ring and climbs up top, scoring
with a flying clothesline before tagging out to Champion. Chip then whips
Cody off the ropes and drops down to the mat, as Champion scores with his
patented diving spinning reverse elbow for the 1-2-3, as Chip takes out
Watson with a hard right hand.

World Heavyweight Champion – Lex Luger
Commercial
When we return, Schiavone intros comments from the new World Tag Team
Champions The Enforcers before the following match –
The Enforcers vs. McKinnon and Squash Boy 2
The jobbers aren’t introduced in this one. Anyway, Arn Anderson lands a boot
to McKinnon’s gut to start, followed by a couple of hard forearms to the
back and then a series of stomps at the ropes. He then whips McKinnon off
the ropes and takes him down with his patented spinebuster before tagging
out to Larry Zbyszko, who slaps on a very strange neck submission hold for
the victory.
Winners: The Enforcers
We then catch comments from World Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger and Harley
Race, as Mr Hughes looks on.
Rick Steiner vs. Jack Savage
Before the match starts, Steiner and Bill Kazmyer pop up in the corner for a
quick chat.
The match starts with a totally unconvincing lockup, with Steiner working an
equally unconvincing go-behind before quickly releasing the “hold”. Steiner
then works another go-behind before hitting a release German Suplex, which
almost decapitates Savage on the bottom rope. Steiner then whips Savage off
the ropes and decks him with a Steinerline, followed by an elbow drop and
then a hard knee to the face. He then delivers the Perry Saturn corner
charge, which sends Savage to the outside. Steiner follows him out and rolls
Savage back into the ring, where he puts him up top and hits a super
belly-to-belly suplex, followed by another elbow drop for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Rick Steiner
Commercial
We return with Schiavone and Magnum at the commentary position, where they
speak about Sting’s problems with mystery gifts recently, being attacked by
both Abdullah the Butcher and Cactus Jack. We then catch a recent clip of an
interview with Sting, conducted by Paul E. Dangerously. Another box comes
down to the ring, but this time there is a rather fine young lady inside,
who kisses Sting. A note inside reveals that Cactus is always watching
Sting.
We then return to Schiavone, who interviews Cactus on stage. Mr Foley then
cuts a typically awesome promo, revealing he is getting paid rather well by
a mystery man to take out Sting.
The Diamond Studd vs. Chris Sullivan
Studd cuts a pretty bad promo on the mic before the match starts and then
shoves Sullivan down to the mat when it does. They lock up a second time,
with Studd shoving him back down again. They then lock up a third time, with
Studd shoving Sullivan into the corner, where he delivers a slap to the
chest, a chop and another slap to the chest before throwing him out of the
corner and onto his head in a botched spot. After a couple of stomps to the
head, Studd whips Sullivan off the ropes and goes for a hiptoss, only for
Sullivan to block it and attempt one of his own. Studd blocks that though
and then hits a knee to the gut, followed by a falling chokeslam.
After a series of right hands, Studd lands a boot to the gut and another
right before whipping Sullivan off the ropes and decking him with a hard
clothesline. Sullivan tries to fight back with a series of rights to the
gut, but Studd cuts him off with a hard discus punch, followed by a sidewalk
slam and then a Vader Bomb out of the corner. He then cinches in a modified
abdominal stretch, pulling one of Sullivan’s legs into the air.
Studd eventually releases the hold and humiliates Sullivan by pushing him in
the face with his boot, eventually pushing him out to ringside where Studd
chops him at the guardrail before dropping him with a running clothesline.
He then rolls Sullivan back inside, where he delivers a boot to the head
followed by the Diamond Death Drop for the 1-2-3.
Winner: The Diamond Studd
We then return to the announce position, where Schiavone and Magnum announce
that on next week’s show, Ron Simmons and Barry Windham will team up in a
tag match. After brief comments from the new tandem, Schiavone announces
that he will be interviewing them both next week, and that Mr Hughes will
see single competition.
End Show.
