rajah.com Mailbag
-By Kayfabe, Vegas and Rajah

Alright, I have re-opened the Mailbag section with the help of two individuals, Kayfabe and Grandpa. Hopefully, it will work out better this time, as the above individuals will handle the great BULK of the emails.

Here are the steps to take if you like your question answered in the Mailbag section:

1. Please check to see that your question(s) have not been answered on any other sections of the page. Take great note of the FAQ Part I and FAQ Part II as well as the mailbag archives at the bottom of the page. .
2. Send a legibly written question or comment to mailbag@rajah.com. Please limit yourself to only one question per person per email. This allows us to update the mailbag more frequently.
3. ALL email sent there may potentially be included in the Mailbag. If you do not want your response posted, do NOT send it there!
4. If a name is included, I will post it along with the email. If you do not want your name published, do NOT write it!
5. Remember, it is impossible that every email I receive get posted on this page. Only the best and most popular questions/comments will likely make it on.
6. Also remember, that questions will be answered by either Kayfabe or Rajah, so any personal remarks should be addressed accordingly. The following color scheme will be used:

Rajah - GREEN
Kayfabe - YELLOW
Vegas - AQUA

When was the very first episode of RAW? Was it supposed to be a one time show, and because of the ratings it got, they made it full time?

The first show was in January 1993. Before that, the WWF had aired Prime Time Wrestling on Monday nights. PTW featured a panel of WWF hosts (including Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan) and showed taped matches, not totally unlike Sunday Night Heat today. The WWF wanted to give the show a live feel, however, and began airing a live show called Monday Night Raw each week to get higher ratings. It worked. The lineup for the show featured Yokozuna defeating Koko B. Ware, Shawn Michaels defending the Intercontinental Title with a win over Max Moon, and the Undertaker squashing Damien Demento.

Hi, I just have a few things that you may want to post in response to some of the things written in the mailbag columns. You said that at Survivor Series, HHH was not in the car and there was just a lot of good editing. This is inaccurate; HHH was inside this modified car and was positioned so that he would be uninjured after the crash. I believe a week before, when the stunt was being practiced, The Big Boss Man sat where HHH would sit and he got injured after the crash, breaking several ribs. So, in fact the crash was legitimate and HHH took a huge risk but thankfully left unscathed. Secondly, someone wrote asking why Teddy Long always is the referee for Farooq matches. My guess is that because Farooq used to be managed by Teddy Long when Farooq used his real name, Ron Simmons, as one half of the NWA/WCW tag team DOOM, that the two are good friends. Perhaps the fact that they have a well-working history with one another is why Teddy Long is the referee for Farooq matches. That's all, keep up the great work.

You're kidding, right? The WWF did not actually drop HHH forty feet in an automobile. The part about Boss Man screams "crappy website rumor". Boss Man has been injured for months, and was no way related to "practicing the stunt". There are so many logic flaws in that, I won't even begin, because basic common sense should cover them all.

You're right about Faarooq and Teddy, however, which leads me to believe you may have indeed been kidding about the above.

From: LouSC
In the latest mailbag there was a question about why Teddy Long referee's all of Farooq's matches. It should be noted that in the early 90's in WCW Long managed Farooq AKA Ron Simmons and Butch Reed, known as the tag team called "Doom". Which has been sighted as one of the best tag teams in WCW history.

Again, this is true. Though Butch Reed has never been one half of the best anything.

hey guys Big upps to the site, Whatever happened to bart gunn?? kayfabe and rajah thanx for reading.(who is vegas in the blue?)

Last I heard, Bart Gunn went to Japan after his WWF stint (I forget which promotion), and actually became a co-holder of their Tag Team Titles. I'm not sure if he's still there or not.

Vegas used to be a columnist for rajah.com, and is probably very hurt by the fact that no one remembers him. Let's make the Veg man feel welcome, shall we?

hey guys- i was just reading the mailbag question about raw being live or tape delayed, and just to add some time-zone info here for you: Raw airs here at 8 (central time) (i believe you said it was at 9 eastern, 7 mountain) so that means that us mid-westerners see it live too...infact i recently attended a raw and had people calling me during the show saing "dude, where are you? wave to me" Like i am that highly visible in a crowd of thousands......duh.... anywho, so i guess that would follow that raw is only on tape delay in the west, haha California isnt that great after all, is it?

Hey, like I've always said. Everything is catered for us folks on the east coast, and the people on the west coast get screwed over when it comes to time issues.

From: MMMBopper
Do u think Scott Hall will ever return to WWF or WCW??? I heered he was gonna go back to WWF for royal rumble but it never happened?

Hall will likely never be back in the WWF or WCW, at least in my opinion. He just has too much baggage and personal problems, and until he can get his life back in order, he won't be of any value to any promotion. I question that he even has any drawing power left anyway. Hall was never contacted by the WWF to be in the Royal Rumble.

Hey Rajah and Kayfabe. You guys run a great site, and we know Rajah does most of the work. It's been well-documented from the last mailbag. anyway, my question is: How come Marty Jannetty wasn't given a push in the WWF?. I remember his return to Superstars in 1993, where he attacked former partner Shawn Michaels and Sensational Sherri. One would think he'd win the title and actually keep it for a little while. What do you think?

Well, he did win the IC Title from Shawn, but only kept it briefly. I thought Jannetty would have a lot of success too, but things turned out differently. Some say he never really fully dedicated himself to his career and liked partying and the night life too much to ever be a top performer in the ring. He was also with the WWF on and off in the mid 90's, so he never really had a solid length of time where he could succeed. When he ended up returning for the last time in late 1995, he became a jobber to the stars, and was used to put over people like Goldust and the heel version of the 1-2-3 Kid.

Final four was one of the greatest pay-per-view ever. That Fool Jim Ross screwed up commentating. in the beginning of the main event j.r said " here we go taker and vader, stone cold and austin" wut the hell is that? he can't even color commentate! ( plz put this on the mailbag!) uh... thats it

Oh my God! You mean he screwed up one insginificant line four years ago?! Could it be that he's... NOT a robot after all? Why, yes, I do believe that Jim Ross is... human! And apparently so are you, because you made a far more serious mistake in this email by proving that you don't even know what his job is. You're right; he can't color commentate. That's why he's the play by play guy.

Hey there Rajah/Kayfabe I'm just updateing your answer's to some questions as well as throwing in my two pence on a few things. The KOTR thing where the briefcase got lowered, if you remember to the KOTR before that the 1998 during main event (first blood austin vs. kane)the cage was lowered helping kane to win and screwing austin out of the title, vince wasn't behind this as he was watching the match in the crowd so they really did waist a recouring angle there.

Also marty jennety was fired or suspended because during the rockers height about 90, 91 some wrestlers filmed a cereal commercial and were all offered $5000 apart from shaun and marty who were given $2500 each, when marty found out about this is threatend to quit, and was fired, leaving micheals to have a singles career.

finnaly teddy long and farooq used to be manager/wrestler in wcw i beleive. thats all, cheers

I don't know what KOTR 98 has to do with KOTR 99.

I have never heard about that cereal thing before, and it doesn't really make sense since the Rocker breakup happened in early 1992, and did so while Marty was still with the WWF. He returned later in the year and remained with the company until early 1994.

From: The Star
Tom has his facts wrong. Marty Jannetty was fired from the WWF soon after The Rockers breakup angle in January 1992. This was most likely drug related, and it would be a regular occurance with Marty during his WWF career as he was fired on more than one occasion. It was absolutely nothing to do with Jim Neidhart (who reappeared just as Marty disappeared).

Now that I can believe, although he was rehired at the end of the year.

Hey Raj and Kayfabe, I just have one question on bleeding in the WWF. I know that wrestler blade and all that stuff but my question is do wrestlers actually get "busted wide open" without blading?. I'm asking this because I was just watching "Beyond the Mat" and it showed Mick Foley before his "I Quit" match with the Rock putting something one his forehead right where he was cut.

Yes, wrestlers do occasionally bleed "hardway" and are legitimately accidentally cut or injured.

Hey Rajah, Kayfabe, and other guy (Vegas or whatever your name is). I have a question that has been bugging me for the better part of 6 months. Everyone says that Kurt Angle's debut on WWF TV was Survivor Series 1999. I could have sworn that I saw him compete a year or so beforehand on Sunday Night Heat, in the brief time that Heat was WWF's #2 show. I believe Tiger Ali Singh was in the ring making fun of America, and paying people in the crowd to eat things, and Kurt Angle came out of the crowd, had an impromptu match, and kicked Tiger's ass. The Announcers even acknowledged him as "olympic champ Kurt Angle." It was only the one match, and he wasnt seen or mentioned again on WWF TV until SS 1999. Am I going crazy, or did this really happen? Thanks.

You might be going crazy, but not because of this. Everything you described above actually did happen. Who would've thought he'd be WWF Champion less than eighteen months later.
