rajah.com Mailbag
-By Kayfabe and Rajah

Alright, I have re-opened the Mailbag section with the help of two individuals, Kayfabe and Grandpa. Hopefully, it will work out better this time, as the above individuals will handle the great BULK of the emails.

Here are the steps to take if you like your question answered in the Mailbag section:

1. Please check to see that your question(s) have not been answered on any other sections of the page. Take great note of the FAQ Part I and FAQ Part II as well as the mailbag archives at the bottom of the page. .
2. Send a legibly written question or comment to mailbag@rajah.com. Please limit yourself to only one question per person per email. This allows us to update the mailbag more frequently.
3. ALL email sent there may potentially be included in the Mailbag. If you do not want your response posted, do NOT send it there!
4. If a name is included, I will post it along with the email. If you do not want your name published, do NOT write it!
5. Remember, it is impossible that every email I receive get posted on this page. Only the best and most popular questions/comments will likely make it on.
6. Also remember, that questions will be answered by either Kayfabe or Rajah, so any personal remarks should be addressed accordingly. The following color scheme will be used:

Rajah - GREEN
Kayfabe - YELLOW
Vegas - AQUA

Hey guys, thanks for your attention and good work.

I'm trying to understand the rationality of WCW's supposed new time slot. Saturday nights between 11PM-1AM? If WWFE is trying to get WCW over as the legible and popular promotion it once was why are they putting it #1) on saturday night when most people are out, #2) that late on Saturday night, #3) 3 other highly popular shows on major networks are on the air at the same time: Howard Stern, Mad Tv, and Saturday Night Live. Why can't WWF find a way to put the new WCW show on a weeknight, Tuesday night for example. Will this timeslot be permanent?

I've been trying to find the logic in that decision too. There's no way a new promotion will get any sort of significant ratings in that timeslot. It's probably there because it's the only slot TNN was willing to put it in, but I'm surprised that Vince would be so quick to put it there, especially since he blames part of the XFL's failure on its Saturday night slot, when he originally intended on airing the games on weekend afternoons. On the other hand, it may be that Vince doesn't want to overexpose his audience to wrestling, and if he puts it on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, it may disrupt the flow of the WWF schedule and turn people off to watching Smackdown on Thursdays (the third two hour prime time wrestling show within three days). Still, I know a lot of fans would rather see the show during the middle of the week.

is it me or is the wwf trying to boost heats ratings by having important things happen that could change story lines in the past year we have seen the debut of trish several wwf championship matches lightweight title changes the unmasking of ninja women ect. ect. m i the only 1 seeing this.

Yep, by throwing an important event on Heat every once in awhile, I'm sure the WWF is attempting to boost its ratings. It hasn't exactly worked, however.

hey guys (raj [pimp], pete [bear, come on], vegas [you get no respect man, it ain't right])great site. i'm a huge triple h fan and i'm curious how you think his inevitable face turn will go? do you think he can be as big a face as rocky or austin (was)? the fans seem to get behind hunter for his brief turn earlier. do you think he cn win the fans over for good? thanks for listening.

I think he'll be just as successful as them, but in a different way. He won't have the catchphrases or cockiness like the Rock and he won't be the anti-authority figure that Steve Austin was. His character will remain similar, but the only difference is he'll target the bad guys instead of the babyfaces. The fans are already waiting for an excuse to cheer the guy. Once he gives them one, he'll be extremely popular.

To Kayfabe Pete: People think 'Kayfabe' sounds feminine because the starting syllable is Kay, which is a girl's name. It sounds like "Kay Fabe". I'll have to check the phone books in case there really is such a person.

And for what it's worth, on the issue of PPV starting times, here in Australia PPVs start at noon Monday (during summer, when we have daylight savings and the US doesn't) or at 10am (when US has daylight savings and we don't). And you thought 5pm was weird. So this year I've already seen the Rumble at noon and Wrestlemania at 10am- nice relaxing after-breakfast viewing ;) They replay them in the evening though, so we can get PPVs even when we actually have work to do in the middle of Monday.

OTOH, we get Raw and Smackdown in the evening (Raw on a couple of hours tape delay from the US, Smackdown used to be the same but is now delayed an extra 24 hours- to Saturday night, curse Foxtel's worthless hides), so it's not as if wrestling is exclusively a daylight hours thing here :)

Yeah, I guess that's true but I still get annoyed by it. As for the issues of PPV start times, once you get out of North America, that's a whole different animal. Some wacky times indeed.

Why did The Rock refuse to wrestle Shawn Michaels?

I don't know that he ever flat out refused to wrestle him, but he'd probably be reluctant to go in there with him because of his attitude. To put it frankly, as good as he is, the WWF doesn't need Shawn Michaels right now, and the Rock realizes that and is content in working with the top stars of today (as opposed to those of yesterday) like Austin, Triple H, Angle, etc. Michaels didn't do much to help his image in the eyes of today's top talent last year when he made comments to the effect that Triple H was the only man since him to truly deserve the WWF Title. With that one statement, he basically discredited the entire main event line of the WWF including the Rock, Austin, The Undertaker, and Mick Foley. So although they don't hate each other or have a lot of heat with one another, The Rock hasn't always been particularly keen on the idea of working any sort of program with Shawn.

I also heard that when the Rock first broke into the WWF as the young Rocky Maivia, he was treated...shall we say not so nicely by the then big superstar, Shawn Michaels. I don't know if there is any truth to this, but according to some circles, Michaels even once said that Rock would never be a big star and that obviously rubbed Rock the wrong way. If true, I think it would explain why Rock isn't eager to step into the ring with HBK.

Hello Kayfabe. This is Big Yin again.

I am grateful that you tried to answer my question but you got it wrong. I know who Alex Wright is from WCW (aka Berlyn) but this guy was in Living Dangerously 1998 with a former WWF wrestler Doug Furnas. Alec Wright talked about the WWF alot and he was definetly not Alex Wright from WCW.

PS If WCW wants to make it big again. Bring in RVD to fued with Lance Storm. PPV's would go sky high!!!!!!!!!

After some research, I found that you're referring to a guy by the name of Lance Wright. He was never in the WWF, but referred to them a lot as part of the storyline he was doing at the time with ECW.

Hey to Raj, Kayfabe, and Vegas. Love the site as always and I just wanna know why everyone seems to love William Regals performance in the ring. My friend and I have noticed but he is very slow and doesnt sell moves very well. Dont get me wrong, I love his character and how he waves to the fans even though they boo him. The only funny part about him wrestling is when he gets those enormous red marks from slaps by either Benoit or Jericho. Also, i think you should not put any mail in here when it contains profanity or something closely resembling it. Im tired of reading the mailbag and seeing a couple of idiots who think they are cool and use foul lamguage just to get thier point across. Ok well later and keep up the good work.

To put it simply, he's a great mat technician. There's no denying that he isn't exactly quick in the ring, but he's a terrific chain wrestler. He's a master of the hold and counterhold. His craft is lost most times in the WWF today because TV matches are so short, and Regal doesn't get to go through the beginning parts of a more traditional match where he shines so brightly. He still hasn't had a great match in the WWF yet, but in WCW in the early 90's he had some excellent matches during his run with their TV Title. I think that's where most of the supporters of Regal's in ring work are coming from, because he doesn't really get to show it off on a regular basis in the WWF.

OK, I want to get this off my chest. Who the heel does Kayfabe think he is to go around taking cheap shots at Rob Van Dam in the mailbag questions. I know you guys at rajah.com are WWF Marks and all, but you can't say that RVD is just a spot machine. For god's sake have you ever watched ECW Television? Van Dam is one of the most innovative wrestlers and isn't all about big spots. He has some great exchanges on the mat in his match-ups and to say the Hardy Boyz are better all round workers than him is just pathetic. That is just being biased to the WWF Workers. If Van Dam were in the WWF, you wouldn't say that. Just watch any of his matches with Jerry Lynn. Look at the exchnges they have in them. It isn't all spots and so on. If that's anyone it's Jeff Hardy. There's my hate mail, I know you requested no hate mail on the subject, but I feel that there needed to be a complaint against Kayfabe's Comments.

You're right, I did say no hate mail, so what gives? You use the term "WWF mark" like it's a bad thing. Like I'm not on the level of others that have closely followed not only the WWF, but WCW, ECW, AJPW, NJPW, XPW, XXL, VH1, and whatever the hell else is out there. I've been a WWF fan all my life; it's as simple as that. Sure I've seen my share of WCW and ECW, but just because I chose to follow only one promotion and one promotion only closely doesn't necessarily make me a "mark". I could just as easily call you an ECW mark for defending RVD... but I won't. I could take a Jerry Lawler like cheapshot at you by making a comment about bingo halls... but I won't. Look, I don't really have anything against RVD so I'm not sure where all this heat is coming from. He is a hell of an athelete and he has had his share of great matches, but from time to time he does have matches that get a little spotty. And if you think that I'm the first one to ever point that out then you just haven't been in the game very long. I've seen some people devote multiple columns to this very subject and getting into wars with die hard RVD and ECW fans as a result. My cheapshot was just more of a fun thing, believe me.
