rajah.com Mailbag
-By Kayfabe, MTR and Rajah

Alright, I have re-opened the Mailbag section with the help of two individuals, Kayfabe and Grandpa. Hopefully, it will work out better this time, as the above individuals will handle the great BULK of the emails.

Here are the steps to take if you like your question answered in the Mailbag section:

1. Please check to see that your question(s) have not been answered on any other sections of the page. Take great note of the FAQ Part I and FAQ Part II as well as the mailbag archives at the bottom of the page. .
2. Send a legibly written question or comment to mailbag@rajah.com. Please limit yourself to only one question per person per email. This allows us to update the mailbag more frequently.
3. ALL email sent there may potentially be included in the Mailbag. If you do not want your response posted, do NOT send it there!
4. If a name is included, I will post it along with the email. If you do not want your name published, do NOT write it!
5. Remember, it is impossible that every email I receive get posted on this page. Only the best and most popular questions/comments will likely make it on.
6. Also remember, that questions will be answered by either Kayfabe, MTR or Rajah, so any personal remarks should be addressed accordingly. The following color scheme will be used:

Rajah - GREEN
Kayfabe - YELLOW
MTR - PURPLE

I was just wondering, whenever you guys post your ratings, it says like "5.3, up two points from 5.1 last week." What I wanted to know was what does each .1 stand for? I heard something about it being 750,000 households or something, I just wanted to know for sure.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe for cable ratings (ie. RAW) each ratings point is equal to roughly 750,000 viewers, while for network broadcast ratings (ie. Smackdown!) each ratings point is about equivalent to about 1,000,000 viewers. Those figures are probably only accurate for overnight ratings.

Hey Rajah, great site, keep up the good work. Now to my question: In the special Triple H edition of the WWF magazine he talks about being punished and something to do with a curtain call. As I was not watching during this time could you please explain what Triple H had done to cause so much anger?

I haven't read this particular magazine, but he is probably referring to the infamous MSG incident. This incident was reviewed in one of our FAQs (which reminds me that I need to get it up asap), but the gist of the story was that it was the last show in which members of the Clique would be wrestling together before Scott Hall (Razor Ramon) and Diesel (Kevin Nash) departed for WCW. The four main members of the Kliq (Hall, Nash, Michaels and Triple H) planned to meet in the ring after the show and embrace in a group hug in front of the entire audience, basically breaking kayfabe and risking angering WWF management. They ended up doing it but since Shawn was the WWF champion while Hall and Nash were no longer in the WWF, Vince McMahon really only punished Triple H, stopping his push (which was supposed to include the King of the Ring that year) almost immediately.

Many people say that Dustin Rhodes never deserved such a horrible gimmick as Golddust. But when ya think about it that was one of the best and most memorable gimmicks of all time. He played it to PERFECTION. I remember him as several other gimmicks but not close to as good as goldust. The WWF pushed the line as far as they could without going overbaord like they did with others. He is one of the best wrestlers of all time with a awesome gimmick to match. What do ya think?

I definitely agree. The Goldust gimmick was one of my favorite ones back in the mid 90s, however, it doesn't seem like the audience of this decade is really into it as much as the WWF had envisioned when signing him.

How about adding a photo gallery for the Raw and Smackdown of the week, for those of us who do not have the priviledge of seeing the show?

I probably would if I could, but by doing so I would set myself up for a lawsuit initiated by WWFE and their huge team of attorneys. :(

hey there rajah, pete and sawan: i have a question and a statement. for some reason it seems to me that vince mcmahon is rascist against mexicans and just about most asians. he makes a joke out of almost of them and most the time they have alot more talent then most the rest of the wwf and also the question is do you know when or if rey mysterio jr is ever going to be in the wwf, i think if the wwf was ever to be serious about their light heavyweight division they should get him and they should re-name the division light-heavyweight is an oxy moron.

I don't know about Vince being a racist, but I'm pretty sure the WWF will sign Rey Mysterio Jr. after March, or at least after the roster split happens. There are rumors that they will use Mysterio to relaunch the light heavyweight/cruiserweight division.

What do you think of the WWF's Jazz? I think she's impressive but no one ever encourages her and her music is so stupid that I can't take her seriously. I think they should show some ECW footage of her beating up the men like Simon Diamond because she looked really aggressive then and it would maybe help her reputation.

The WWF is very high on Jazz, as evidenced by her recent push as the federation's women's champion. As for her ECW footage, I'm not sure if the WWF is legally allowed to show that because as far as I can remember, they did not purchase the ECW video library, although there were strong rumors that Vince was gonna make a pitch for it.

1. What is that thing that goes up into all of the refs ears? Is it a communication device to talk to the production crew or what?

2. Is Rob Van Dam related to Jean Claude Van Dam? To me they look the same for some strange reason.

3. When the WWF bought WCW why is it that all of the contracts (Sting, Nash, Goldberg) were not transfered to the WWF since they do own WCW.

4. Do you see Billy & Chuck getting pushed to tag title status in the near future? I personally think that they have a good gimmick and they both wrestle well. (Plus I hate the Dudleyz if it were my choice I would fire them so fast Their matches are just extremely boring to me. The only reason I keep on their matches is Stacey

1. Yes, it's purely a communication device.

2. No. Jean Claude's name is spelled "Van Damme".

3. The contracts were independent of the WCW entity, and thus the WWF had the option of picking up those contracts that they wanted. Since a lot of the main superstars had very rich, non-incentive based deals, WWFE chose not to pick up those contracts, instead hoping for AOL/Time Warner to buy out the agreements of those wrestlers after which they would step in and re-negotiate a more feasible salary.

4. We need to update the mailbag more often, methinks.

rajah, kayfabe, mtr, what ever happened to the WCW hardcore title, and why did it just disappear? and also, are you guys going two do a "title history" on it?

I didn't really follow WCW before it was bought out by the WWF, but I am pretty sure they abandoned the division when their hardcore champion Meng defected to the WWF at the 2001 Royal Rumble as Haku. He was the reigning WCW hardcore champion but was only on a per-appearance deal when the WWF offered him the security of a long-term contract. Haku/Meng took that and gave the title to one of his colleagues but WCW chose to just phase the belt out.

My question mirrors it but with a twist. Which gimmick that DIDN'T do well do you think could survive in a different time? My personal pick for best fit for this generation would be Waylon Mercy, who was brilliantly played by Dan Spivey. I believe his laid-back attitude before snapping at the end of his matches was a precursor to Mankind and Ken Shamrock type characters. And bonus points points for the hawaiian shirt and khakis before they were "in." What's your opinion?

I think Duke "The Dumpster" Droese could have done well in another time, like early 2000. He used to bring the garbage can which would be a perfect fit in the hardcore division. Of course, a guy like him would probably never ever be a superstar, but I think he would have enjoyed modest success, at least more so than he did in the mid 90s.

1) A round of applause for being so creative in various Fantasy Tournaments. But one thing that really bothers me is the fact that HHH would win any tourney as long as his name is entered. Put HHH along side with Mae Young, and they would beat the team of Goldberg/Chyna to win the Mixed Tag Team Tournament. It's the popularity of HHH that wins the contest. The results in the Fantasy Tourney are just like all professional wrestling matches (i.e. Pre-determined!). I would really like to see HHH lose - just for once!

2) How do those Japanese wrestlers, like Great Muta & Tajiri, etc., spit green mist during their matches? I don't think the liquid is already inside the mouth before the start of a match.

1. Man, me too. I'm kinda sick of seeing Triple H win every single fantasy tournament. Maybe we won't include him in the next one.

2. Well as for Tajiri in the middle of his match, he gets a chance to sneak under the ring and put the liquid in his mouth. If you watch closely it usually happens when he gets thrown to the outside, while the referee is restraining his opponent from following him there. The cameras usually focus on what's going in the ring and you (obviously) never really get to see what Tajiri is doing.

Hey guys, great site. I must say I love the mailbag section. MTR, sorry so many people forget your name. :( Anyway, I was just wondering if Goldust, Jeff Jarrett, Ken Shamrock, or Kevin Nash would ever return to full-time action. I know Goldust is participating in the rumble, but other than that, I'm lost! These guys (especially Jarrett) have been my fave's for some time now, and none of them are around in the WWF! I mean, Shamrock's been gone forever! Considering all other wrestling companies tend to fall on their asses nowadays, I wish at least one of these guys would come to the WWF. Anyway, hope you put this in the mailbag!

Goldust - Appears back, at least for the forseeable future.

Jeff Jarrett - Probably won't be back in the WWF anytime soon, although he's one of my all-time favorites and I think the WWF would do business with him if the situation was right.

3. Ken Shamrock - Could definitely be back, but there have been no talks between him and the WWF as of late. He's still having fun in the shootfighting scene.

4. Kevin Nash - Is back for the long haul.

Whatever happened to all the old mailbag people? Like Vegas, Grandpa and Sawan? I liked them! But Raj, Kayfabe, and MTR kick ass to! Answer if you will!

Vegas, Grandpa and Sawan all quit. Them slackers.

Do you know why Tough Enough winner Nidia has yet to wrestle on WWF television? I know that she has appeared on WWF television with the APA and Jacqueline, but she has never wrestle. Meanwhile, Maven has had televised promos, matches, and a spot in the Royal Rumble.

Nidia is not even close to wrestling on WWF TV according to reports. I don't think she is even a regular wrestler in Ohio Valley Wrestling yet.

We got a lot of emails about the whole RAW after IYH: Final Four incident where Bret wrestled Sid, with both Austin and Undertaker interfering. Thanks to everyone who sent in clarifications and the one below is by reader Burke:

I'm going to explain what happened in a RAW main event after IYH: Final Four.

Bret Hart was set to face Sid in a cage match for the WWF Championship. Bret already had a match signed for the WrestleMania PPV as did Sid. Bret was set to face Austin and Sid to face Undertaker. Austin wanted a shot at the WWF Title so he came out to try to help Bret win the match... thus trying to put himself in the main event and in a WWF Title match. Undertaker came out to help Sid win the title so that he himself would be given the main event at WrestleMania and the WWF Title shot. I believe Sid had climbed out of the cage as Bret was standing in the doorway to the cage. Undertaker slammed the door shut on Bret and Sid dropped to the floor. Sid was the winner and WWF Champion. As the cage was being tore down... Vince came out to try to interview Bret. Bret shoved Vince on his ass and started a huge fit about the injustice in the WWF. Many curses were used by Bret Hart... none of which were *bleeped.* This was a planned thing through Vince, Bret, and USA (the network that carried RAW at the time)!
