IMPACT Wrestling recently announced that the company's monumental and exclusive Ultimate X Match will be taking place on their upcoming 1000th episode and that the match could end up being a special bout, which is the signature match of IMPACT's X-Division. There is no word yet on who will be competing in the match or what the eventual winner will earn, but this will be the 50th Ultimate X Match in the history of IMPACT Wrestling and it remains to be seen if the company will do anything special to mark the huge milestone.
The inaugural Ultimate X Match took place on August 20, 2003 at the NWA-TNA Weekly PPV #59 and it saw Michael Shane become the IMPACT Wrestling X-Division Champion by defeating Frankie Kazarian and then-IMPACT X-Division champion Chris Sabin in a 3-Way Match. The last Ultimate X Match took place at this past July's IMPACT Slammiversary PPV Event and it saw Kushida defeat Jake Something, "Speedball" Mike Bailey, Alan Angels, Kevin Knight and Jonathan Gresham to become the new #1 contender to Lio Rush and his IMPACT X-Division Title.
IMPACT Wrestling's 1000th episode special will air on Thursday, September 14 as the post-Victory Road episode, but the show will be taped on Saturday, September 9 from inside the Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York. This episode will take place one day after the 2023 Victory Road PPV Event from the same venue.
